Business Rules

IBM® Websphere® Operational Decision Management provides the power to intelligently automate a wide range of decisions across business processes and applications.

What Does It Do?

  • Built on IBM’s market-leading business rules management system and enhanced with capabilities for detecting time-based events, WODM drives more responsive actions to business opportunities or risk conditions, increasing the value of each customer, partner and internal interaction.
  • It enables line-of-business subject matter experts to create and maintain decision logic, accelerating the implementation of changes to meet evolving market, regulatory or competitive conditions
  • Improves collaboration between business and IT teams, sharing visibility and governance controls for the management of decision logic
  • Separates decisions from processes and applications, facilitating change and reuse across business systems
  • Precisely executes real-time decisions, providing specific business event and business rule runtime capabilities that can be deployed individually or in an integrated solution

How Does It Do It?

  • Websphere Operational Decision Management consists of two component sets, which together form a comprehensive platform for the management and execution of business rules and business events:
    • WebSphere Decision Center provides an integrated repository and management components for line-of-business subject matter experts to directly participate in the governance of business rule and business event-based decision logic. Through the capabilities of WebSphere Decision Center, business and IT functions can work collaboratively, aligning the entire organization in the implementation of automated decisions and accelerating the maintenance lifecycle as they evolve based on new external and internal requirements.

    • WebSphere Decision Server provides the runtime components to automate decision logic, enabling the detection of actionable business situations and the response of precise decisions based on the specific context of an interaction. With WebSphere Decision Server, organisations can monitor a business network to discover and take action on event-based data patterns, and then process this information against hundreds or even thousands of business rules in order to determine how to respond within both front-end and back-end systems.

Why Is That Useful?

  • WebSphere Operational Decision Management allows businesses to respond to actionable business situations with precision by ensuring business events and rules integration proactively assist in guiding users to decide what to do and when.
  • It improves the quality of transaction and process-related decisions that are made repeatedly, determining the appropriate course of action for each customer, partner and internal interaction.
  • It reduces the time to implement change through a configurable, non-technical rule language and capabilities allowing business users to directly access and maintain decision logic
  • It improves communication and collaboration between IT and line-of-business functions through a centralised decision management repository and shared governance controls
