DataPower Appliances

IBM® Websphere® DataPower Appliances provide optimised, pre-configured, scalable integration and connectivity solutions for common business scenarios.

What Does It Do?

  • Datapower appliances provide a rapid deployment capability which reduces setup, running and maintenance costs. Different models are tuned to specific, common business activities.
  • Integration models are built for simplified deployment & hardened security, to integrate different client IT environments, bridging multiple protocols, delivering high speed message transformation, integration, and routing in a blade form factor which cuts IT costs and improves operational performance.
  • Web Services models secure web services, applications and data with customisable, scalable and automated service visibility and governance while offering light-weight integration.
  • To manage high volumes traffic environments The Edge appliance integrates edge-of-network, traffic gateway functions, and authorisation mechanisms and provides a consolidated solution for mediating traffic at the edge-of-network.
  • Business-to-Business traffic is supported by an appliance which extends your Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) with purpose-built B2B hardware providing AS1/AS2/AS3 messaging & trading partner profile management.
  • High performance caching requirements are also supported via a tuned appliance that delivers exceptional performance and hardened security at the caching tier of your enterprise application infrastructure.

How Does It Do It?

  • There is a common Management Center which provides fast time to value by managing deployment, domain, policy and configuration services.
  • This allows centrally management of appliance firmware and configurations across groups of WebSphere DataPower appliances and monitoring of key metrics and events
  • A Web-based user interface provides operational control capabilities and is underpinned by automatic synchronisation across multiple appliances, version control for deployment artefacts and appliance monitoring.
  • Support for managed groups of different appliance models and firmware levels for greater flexibility
  • It provides enhanced monitoring capability with default settings for critical appliance key performance indicators, an easy-to-use interface with support for different user roles, as well as integration into the IBM Service Management solution

Why Is That Useful?

  • The use of a specially-tuned appliance enables IT departments to be nimble and responsive to the needs of the business by reducing installation and management overheads.
  • Performance management tasks and cost of ownership are reduced compared to traditional infrastructure set up and management.
  • Pre-configuration and tuning of specialist devices ensure optimum performance for common business scenarios.
